This is an interesting way to look at shipping updates to your app. What if you didn't push a big 3.0 version update, but rather updated your app with a new feature, focusing on that feature in your promotion. Sure, it would still be a new version, but it wouldn't need to be promoted that way. Users don't care about numbers, they care about features.
